Silk Road News

Silk Road was a website that served as an online black market, the first recognized such market on the dark web, and was best known for selling illegal drugs. It was launched in 2011 by Ross Ulbricht, with Bitcoin the primary currency accepted on the site due to its perceived anonymity. Silk Road was investigated by the FBI and the IRS, and in October 2013 Ulbricht was arrested and the site was shut down. In February 2015 Ulbricht was sentenced to life imprisonment on seven charges. Court cases of those caught up in Silk Road are still making their way through justice systems worldwide, which is why its legacy still haunts the crypto ecosystem years after its closure.
