Malta is getting itself ready for its Winter 2019 AI & Blockchain Summit, with the usual combination of talks, workshops, and pitches that looks to shape the coming years in the blockchain and AI worlds. The summit will take place on November 7-8 at the InterContinental Arena Conference Centre, St Julian’s, with more than 10,000 attendees, 400 sponsors and exhibitors, 1,500 investors, and 200 speakers converging on the island more than 80 countries worldwide.

Pumpkin Man Joins the Party

Visitors will be able to listen and learn from crypto luminaries such as Ben Goertzel, Brock Pierce, Tone Vays, Roger Ver, and ‘Pumpkin Man’ Craig Wright, with the event also expected to serve as a platform for the Maltese government to renew its commitment to the future of blockchain and AI in Malta the country, with further legislation and regulation for the AI sector anticipated to be announced at the event. Workshops will allow greater knowledge sharing across the space, while the AI Startup Village will provide fledgling companies with a chance to secure support and investment for their ideas.

Critical Time for Malta’s Blockchain Ambitions

The conference will feature some big crypto projects, including Dash Next, Elastos, and Changeangel, with the A.I. & Blockchain Awards ceremony taking place on the first night, honoring those who have made the biggest contribution to the sectors this year. The conference comes just weeks after the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) announced their 2019-2021 Strategic Plan, which will involve increased surveillance of crypto-handling entities, and suggestions that Blockchain Garage is perhaps more accurate than the self-awarded title of Blockchain Island, given its recent hikes in fees for whitepaper submissions and the requirement to hire specific agencies when going through the process. The government will therefore be hoping that the upcoming summit can put some gloss back on their designs to be at the forefront of these emerging technologies.
