The Litecoin Foundation has decided to enter the famed octagon as the official cryptocurrency partner of UFC 232. The partnership will see Litecoin advertised to millions of MMA fans across the globe in the hope of generating increased interest in the leading cryptocurrency.

Litecoin on the Light Heavyweight Card

Litecoin will be given prominent showtime during the Light Heavyweight fight between Jon “Bones” Jones and Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson on Saturday night – or Sunday morning depending on where you live. This could be seen as a rather controversial move on Litecoin’s behalf, as Jon Jones has tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in two of his last three fights. If he tests positive in this, which technically he has, it could make Litecoin think twice in the future about associating itself with the UFC.

Cryptos Getting into Sports Advertising

It appears as if cryptocurrencies have become globally accepted enough to finally step up to the big league and advertise with top sporting brands around the world. Back in August, eToro signed a deal with the English Premier League to promote crypto trading with a number of top teams, including the high-flying Tottenham Hotspur. On the back of this success, OKEx signed a similar deal with the English Premier League to have ads shown during top games over the festive period. However, OKEx only has one game remaining on its advertising deal – current league leaders Liverpool versus AFC Bournemouth on January 8th 2019.

Not the Best Fight Card

In terms of fight cards, Litecoin hasn’t gone for the biggest or best at all. The Jones versus Gustafsson fight is pegged as the main event, but many view the co-main event – Cris Cyborg versus Amanda Nunes – as the fight that deserves top billing. All other undercard fights are relatively small and most likely won’t draw the huge viewing numbers that Litecoin would like. Litecoin could be testing the waters with its UFC partnership before it throws in the big bucks to get its logo on the canvas, as the supposed Connor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov rematch looms.
In what is a great bit of self-promotion, Litecoin has definitely got the best seat in the house for the main event – as its logo will be front and center for all the world to see. Litecoin is backing a knockout for the main event, and what a way to kick off its UFC partnership that would be.
