Domino's US Lets you Buy Pizza Using Lightning Network

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Bitcoin network has finally gone full circle, from Laszlo Hanyecz ordering the first pizza with Bitcoin to your average joe being able to use its second layer scaling solution to order delicious pizza from Domino’s. Fold – a development firm that makes it possible to spend Bitcoin – has developed a Lightning Network node that will accept payments and order you Domino’s right to your front door. Buying a pizza using the Lightning Network costs less than $0.01 in fees, and will bag you a fresh Domino’s pizza to your front door in 1 hour or less anywhere in the US – a pretty awesome way to end the weekend, don’t you agree?

Delicious Pizza for All

All you have to do to buy pizza using the Lighting Network is head over to LN.Pizza and enter in your address. Once you have entered in your address, you can select the nearest store, make your order and you will be shown a QR code. Simply scan the QR code with your mobile Lighting Network app – or enter the address into your desktop client – and the payment will be processed. The payment will happen off-chain in a matter of seconds and your order from Domino’s will begin the cooking process – pretty neat, huh!

Not the First Lightning Network Pizza

It might come as a shock to many of you, but this isn’t the first-time pizza has been bought using the Lightning Network. Laszlo Hanyecz takes the crown for the first pizza bought with Bitcoin’s second layer scaling solution – the Lightning Network. Back in March 2018, Hanyecz snapped up a hot slice of pizza using the Lightning Network for a whopping 0.00649 BTC. Back then 0.00649 BTC converted into $62, we aren’t sure quite how many pizzas he ordered, but we’re pretty sure he had leftovers for breakfast!

Giving you a Discount on Pizza!

The only thing better than pizza is free pizza. While LN.Pizza isn’t exactly giving you free pizza, it is giving you 5% off your entire order. Next time you’re ordering pizza for pizza night, using the Lightning Network could help you get a free drink, that five percent discount should be enough to score you a free bottle of pop.
We are always on the lookout for new ways to spend Bitcoin, and this could be one of our most favorite ways yet. Unfortunately, for the time being it’s only available in the US, but the developers are working on launching a Canadian version in the coming months. There isn’t an ETA for a live European, Asian, or Australasian version sadly, but this is still some of the hottest and tastiest news of the year.
