Crypto.com Confirms UK and EU Card Shipping

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Crypto.com, the crypto debit card company that already serves the US and much of Asia, has announced that it will soon start shipping cards to EU and UK customers. The news came via a short blog post from the company on Tuesday which stated that UK and EU customers were “invited to complete their card application process” prior to the cards shipping, although no time frame was given for the actual shipping date.

UK and EU Customers Finally Getting Closer

Crypto.com, who rebranded from Monaco in July 2018, launched their MCO crypto debit card in Singapore in October that year before rolling out US support a month later. During this time however, UK and EU customers have suffered somewhat, with their card announced then delayed on numerous occasions.

This request for information however seems to suggest that the company is finally entering the final stages of the product launch and EU and UK customers should soon find the cards arriving through their letterboxes in the near future.

Crypto Debit Cards Slowly Gaining Traction

Crypto debit cards are a sore point in the industry, with many iterations having come and gone in recent years. The cards aim to allow users to spend their crypto in the same way as a standard debit card, with some also offering the ability to buy and trade crypto too, but this relatively simple concept has been complicated by a number of factors since their introduction. In particular, in early 2018 Visa cut ties with Wavecrest, the company that issued a lot of crypto cards and causing a worldwide ban on their use, although these problems seem to have been overcome now.

Coinbase launched their own card in April 2019, which had the added ability to convert crypto to fiat at the time of sale, rather than users having to perform such a swap manually prior to purchase. Crypto.com’s MCO cards lack this ability, but with many purposefully eschewing Coinbase for ideological reasons, the MCO card may prove to be a worthy alternative.
